Highlights of the elephant in the waiting room event
A tremendous networking event attended by over 30 people from health & social care, ICT and interactive digital media companies. All of them interested in improving services in a world that is moving to prevention and to patient/client centred care in their homes & community.
Just a few highlights:
Key issues from Graham Beaumont, The Health Exchange
- Obesity
- Demographics (ageing population)
- Rapid increase in long term conditions, eg dementia
- Risk of a pandemic
Key issues from Neil Serougi, Solihull care Trust
- Integration of primary & social care at the cultural level
- The political landscape will change – our children will presume self-management; but will this mean the marginalised are even more marginalised?
- Professionals see IT & media support as a separate tool. They need to move to seeing themselves differently and the technologies they use as an integral part of their professional selves.
Discussion
- There now a large focus on prevention, requiring communication to the general population.
- This is in the areas of both health and social behaviour.
- The major channels to the general population will be Interactive Digital TV (IDTV) and Internet-delivered TV (IPTV).
- Keep it entertaining! Don’t let a serious game turn into a nagging tool!
