Background to 20th May Event
I suppose you would call this the "backstory" these days...!

Context:
This event is taking place due to demand from previous activity that has reached the point where the interested parties now require more specific examples of case studies and issues in order to identify potential partners to move ahead with business development & pilot project proposals.
The previous activity was kicked off by the IDM Patient simulators project, which focused initially on use of serious games for training of doctors, but rapidly identified additional wider opportunities. Many of these are related to the intertwined nature of health and social care and the need to reach “hard to reach” sections of the population.
This wider interest was met by a successful networking meeting on 28th February run outside the IDM project, but under AWM auspices, by UWSP and John W Beeston.
Due to this previous activity, there is now a core group of senior “players” from both supply and demand sides of the market who are already engaged into the proposed event. These people will provide the authoritative content of the meeting on case studies, issues and ways ahead.
It is clear that, to move ahead, serious games SMEs will have to move out of their “silo” to partner with organisations from other areas, in particular: ICT, Screen image & sound, Professional services, Health & social services.
Promotion:
This “cross-cluster” meeting will be promoted to people in all these areas in order to enhance the rich mix of people and organisations. This will be done in association with the appropriate projects and agencies in the region.
Benefits:
To Attendees: Building relationships with senior people in potential business partners.
To the Region: The immediate measurable benefit is expected to be a successful networking meeting. The major benefit is in economic & social development of the West Midlands. This is longer term and un-measurable now. It will come from harnessing of the expertise in serious games in the region into tackling the serious health and social issues in the region.
